Former police station sale provides Ramsey residential opportunity

Sep 14, 2017

Acting on behalf of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Cambridgeshire, Barker Storey Matthews has confirmed the sale of the former police station property in the market town of Ramsey to the Allgood Group of Companies.

Former police station sale provides Ramsey residential opportunity

On a site extending to 0.459 acres with a principal, two-storey building of just under 437 sqm (4,702 sq ft), the site on Blenheim Road was sold as part of the OPCC’s planned property disposals programme.

The new owner, the Allgood Group is looking to develop the site for residential use with a scheme appropriate to its prominent location and proximity to Ramsey town centre.

Paul Allgood, Owner and Managing Partner of the Allgood Group, said, “We are very excited at the opportunity offered by the former police station in Ramsey.

It provides a unique opportunity to develop a significant site close to the town centre which will provide additional local homes.”

Police and Crime Commissioner, Jason Ablewhite, said, “The sale of Ramsey Police station is part of an ongoing review of police estate across the county.

The current police estate is worth around £35 million and costs £4 million to run so and by selling underused and unneeded buildings allows money to be used to maintain officer numbers which I know is what people want.

The sale will not affect local policing and, following my discussions with the fire service, officers will maintain a local presence through the Ramsey fire station, another example of how the police and fire service continue to work together.”

Stephen Power, Director, Barker Storey Matthews who oversaw the sale on behalf of the OPCC for Cambridgeshire added, “This unusual property was marketed on a leasehold and freehold basis to maximise the opportunity to potential tenants or purchasers, alike.

Due to the high level of interest, the site was offered for sale by tender, with open offers invited.  We can confirm several offers were received.”
