Nov 20, 2017

A West Suffolk cycling shop is back in the saddle and trading from new premises in Bury St Edmunds after its shop in the town centre was destroyed by fire at the end of September (2017).

New Premises See Cycle King Back in the Saddle after Town Centre Fire

Local property agency, Barker Storey Matthews has confirmed that Cycle King - previously based on Angel Hill – has secured a temporary lease on a unit at Moreton Hall trading estate, off Bedingfield Road in the town.

Cycle King now trades from the 243.7 sqm (2,622 sq ft) unit at 14 Chamberlayne Road which is in a prominent position on the estate - one of Bury St Edmunds main commercial trading areas, hosting leading retailers and traders such as Matalan, Homebase, Sainsbury’s, Screwfix and Topp’s Tiles, among many other household names.

In taking a temporary lease on 14 Chamberlayne Road through agent Barker Storey Matthews - who acted under instruction from the landlord in the negotiations - Cycle King has the option to extend the lease should a return to its Angel Hill shop premises not be possible within the coming year (2018).

Steven Mudd of Barker Storey Matthews acknowledges that the out-of-town centre location may take a bit of getting used to for Cycle King’s staff and regular customers.

He comments, “Cycle King had been trading at Angel Hill for many years so has an established profile and customer base. It is expected to return to those premises once the repair works are complete.

However, with a lack of suitable retail premises available in the town centre, Chamberlayne Road was the best option.”
