The latest retail letting in Bury St Edmunds by commercial property agent, Barker Storey Matthews - in which it acted for the landlord - sees one independent trader replaced by another on Risbygate in the town centre.

The new occupier of 8 Risbygate is 'Vanity Eight', an independent hair salon who has taken a new 10-year lease on the 896 sq ft (83.2 sq m) retail unit after it was vacated by Soundsplus - a long-established, independent music store - following that occupier’s consolidation of its business interests.

Close to the Arc shopping centre where many national retailers are concentrated, Risbygate remains a popular location for occupiers looking for town centre retail premises - particularly units below 1,000 sq ft, where demand can be strong if rents are competitively priced, according to Barker Storey Matthews.

Steven Mudd of Barker Storey Matthews’ Bury St Edmunds office adds, “This latest retail unit on Risbygate was let after only a short period of marketing.

“As the dynamic of the high street changes, we are finding that commercial property landlords are willing to consider independent traders whose retail offering, such as that of a hair salon or boutique dining or similar, is something which can’t be replicated online.”
