An instruction to source suitable premises in central Cambridge has seen a property change use from a former charity shop to a brand new, but authentic, Spanish tapas bar, confirms agent Barker Storey Matthews.

Tu Casa has recently opened at 8 Mill Road  in Cambridge– a property which formerly traded as the YMCA charity shop and which Barker Storey Matthews was instructed to let last spring (2017)

Two vibrant and experienced business partners - Elia Polo del Vecchio and Roi Vaqeuro Luces - are behind the opening of the stylish restaurant.  In seeking premises for a ‘muy typico’ tapas bar, the partners were keen to find a property in a location in which Tu Casa could flourish as a local, neighbourhood eaterie as well as attract custom as a Cambridge city centre restaurant.

Elia Polo del Vecchio explains, “With a Spanish business partner and a Spanish chef and my own love of Spain, we wanted to re-create the kind of quality and style of dishes and atmosphere that is common to tapas bars in Spanish cities.

“Tapas bars are so common to urban neighbourhoods in Spain and we saw a gap in the market in Cambridge.

“At 8 Mill Road, we are part of the city’s most popular residential areas as well as being close to the historic city centre across Parker’s Piece.”

The letting was led by Laurence Gercke of Barker Storey Matthews, who specialises in retail agency in Cambridge.

He comments, “When we were asked to market 8 Mill Road in April 2017, straight away I knew it would be perfect as a restaurant, pending a change of use planning application from retail A1 to restaurant A3 on which permission was granted last December.”
