The building will comprise around 11,000 sq ft and sits on its own self-contained site. Once completed, the building will provide a new state of the art workshop and maintenance facility for police vehicles to cover the whole of the county.
Colin Luscombe, Director of Estates said, “We were looking for a new facility to combine our vehicle maintenance operations, which are currently based in three separate buildings in Peterborough, March and Cambridge. We selected St Ives as being the ideal central location for the county but had difficulty finding an existing building which met all our requirements. We looked at the two units at The Lakes although neither were quite large enough for our use so the developers offered to build a tailor made facility for us. Planning permission for the new facility was obtained very quickly and we are delighted with the rate of progress that is being made on the construction of the building and look forward to taking occupation in the autumn”.
