The five-screen cinema is central to the landmark development which will also be home to a new higher education facility thanks to a ground-breaking partnership between the Council and the University of Lincoln.
The multiplex has been pre-let to the Savoy Cinema which is expanding across the East Midlands.
As the letting agent for the two ground floor restaurant units - one is 296 sqm (3,186 sq ft) and the other, 279 sq m (3,003 sq ft) - Barker Storey Matthews’ brief is to identify high quality restaurant operators whose offering complements the profile of development.
Grantham’s Cinema Quarter is the first new town centre development in Grantham for over 30 years. The civic-backed project has seen significant investment by the local authority which includes major public realm improvements to open up the immediate area and form a pedestrian link to the town’s High Street.
Councillor Jacky Smith, the SKDC Cabinet member with responsibility for the Cinema Quarter project, said, “Grantham is primed for major growth with a designer outlet village opening on the edge of town, which will encourage visitors in to the centre itself.
“The announcement last week that the University of Lincoln is to open a new technology and innovation centre next summer is another major advance in the town’s development. Grantham has huge potential for restaurant operators.
”The additional footfall created by the University’s higher education facility will, we feel sure, prove attractive to interested parties.”
The cinema complex is at a strategic location in the town centre at the corner of St Peter’s Hill and St Catherine’s Road. It is adjacent to South Kesteven District Council’s headquarters and also a 300-space car park.
With the nearest cinema 19 miles away, this leisure development will, according to Barker Storey Matthews, bring much needed amenity to Grantham - a rapidly growing town set for further residential and commercial expansion within the next decade as part of the Government’s Growth Agenda.
Julian Welch, who is Barker Storey Matthews’ leisure and retail specialist, is leading the letting instruction on the two new restaurant units and he is confident that this high profile, high quality development and attendant footfall will attract compatible restaurant operators.
