An award winning independent firm of chartered surveyors is relocating its office to a new commerical property in Peterborough. The move strengthens its regional presence by bringing its building surveying and management services under one roof in new premises on Thorpe Road in Peterborough.

Barker Storey Matthews has been located on Priestgate in Peterborough for over 17 years, but, in parallel with many of its agency clients, had been seeking new premises in the city in which to accommodate its current rate of growth and provide for future business expansion plans.

The move from its 2,000 sq ft offices in Priestgate will see expansion to over 4,520 sq ft with 22 staff to be headquartered at The Lawns, 33 Thorpe Road.

Barker Storey Matthews is one of the largest independent firms of chartered surveyors in the Eastern Region with offices in Peterborough, Huntingdon, Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds.  It is consistently ranked as the most active regional property agency and the most active agent in Cambridgeshire, too, by leading commercial property trade journal, Estates Gazette.

While the local agency offices will continue to serve the needs of commercial clients from the four co-locations across the region, the move to a bigger commercial property in Peterborough sees Barker Storey Matthews bringing its building surveying, project management, planning consultancy and property management teams together in one regional hub.

Steve Hawkins, Managing Director, believes the move to bigger premises will benefit clients and colleagues, alike.

He explains, “For the best agency service, you can’t beat having an established local presence.  However, in our Priestgate offices, we were limited by size and configuration in being able to bring together all our expertise to offer the full range of professional property specialist services.”

“The new Barker Storey Matthews HQ building on Thorpe Road means those offering the non-agency property specialisms will come together to best effect in servicing the needs of our clients across the whole of this region and complementing the geographic spread of our four commercial agency locations.

“Our business is growing.  It had become a tight squeeze for colleagues on Priestgate but now we have room to grow at Thorpe Road.”
