A self-storage company which owns and runs a number of facilities in the East Midlands has secured its first site in Cambridgeshire.

The Peterborough office of Barker Storey Matthews (now part of Eddisons) has acted as the agent on behalf of the landowner in the sale of a half acre site in Whittlesey to Loc-Box Self Storage.

Barker Storey Matthews also advised the storage company on its planning application for the new self-storage site which is on the Ashley Road Industrial Estate, fronting StationRoad, in the north Cambridgeshire town.

Set up in 2003, Loc-Box is a family-owned business with established sites across locations in Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Its new Cambridgeshire site in Whittlesey will launch later this month (June).

While describing the market as buoyant, on launching its new location, Loc-Box has advised it will be offering special priced self-storage packages at Whittlesey to key workers, charitable causes and business start-ups

Richard Jones, of Barker Storey Matthews’ Peterborough office, oversaw the deal and commented, “This deal on land in Whittlesey is the third of its kind Barker Storey Matthews has concluded recently with a self-storage operator.

“We are noting a rise in requirements from companies in that sector – both established brands and also independent operators such as Loc-Box.

“These operators are expanding in response to the changing nature of domestic and business set-ups when it comes to the interim or, indeed, the long term accommodation of surplus effects for future use.”
