A national chain of storage specialists has taken a lease to rent just under an acre (actual 0.7 acres, equivalent to 0.28 ha) of gated and fenced land for storage on Homefield Road, Haverhill.
To the north of Cambridge, a regional self-storage company has purchased 1.29 acres of land at Lakes Business Park , near St Ives.
Ben Green, Barker Storey Matthews’ head of agency in Cambridge, advises that for commercial operators in this sector of the warehouse/industrial space, security and accessibility by road are imperative requirements.
He said, “These two latest lettings to self-storage operators are typical of the type of premises those in this growing business sector are looking for.
“Both are in locations near to centres of population growth at new settlements at Northstowe and Alconbury Weald and Cambourne’s extension.
“Homefield Road in Haverhill is an established commercial trading location and is a busy estate with occupiers trading at all times of the day and through the week.
“Similarly, Lakes Business Park in St Ives - while a relatively new business location - is well positioned for the new A14 route and its previous route, adjacent to the park, which is now designated as the local road, the A1307.
“One of the established occupiers there is Cambridgeshire Constabulary, in addition to trade counter operators whose deliveries and hours of opening add to the security features of the units on the park.”
